We are dedicated to providing golf programing and infrastructure to reduce the barriers of entry for educational institutions, student golfers and their families.
While many families bonded over baseball, basketball, or football, the Marion family’s passion was golf. STIX Golf Academy was born from the inspiring legacy of Rollin Marion, Jr., a retired Detroit Fire Department Lieutenant who dominated the Metro Detroit golf scene in the 1980s and 1990s. His remarkable 62 at Chandler Park Golf Course still stands as the course record today[1].
In 2023, Rollin’s son Dequan Marion and his wife Katrina witnessed firsthand the struggles faced by their children’s high school golf team and other inner-city youth who lacked equitable access to the sport. Determined to level the playing field, they founded STIX Golf Academy, a non-profit organization dedicated to breaking down barriers and introducing golf to underserved youth[1].
Carrying forward Rollin Marion’s legacy, STIX Golf Academy aims to empower the next generation of golfers, proving that with the right opportunities and support, anyone can excel in this challenging sport, regardless of their background.
Our golf program approach is designed to provide schools with a comprehensive playbook for independently running successful programs while adhering to competitive standards. Through virtual and in-person instruction, mentorship, and industry knowledge, students will gain fundamental knowledge and inspiration regardless of their location. We prioritize teaching golf etiquette to instill values of respect andsportsmanship, fostering a culture of camaraderie on and off the course.
Stix Golf Academy proudly partners with four premier local golf courses, providing our young athletes with unparalleled access to world-class facilities. This exclusive arrangement ensures that our students have the opportunity to regularly practice and hone their skills in authentic, competitive environments.
We understand that busy family schedules and lack of transportation can be significant barriers to participation in after-school activities. Our transportation initiative removes these obstacles, providing a safe, convenient, and supervised ride from school directly to our partner golf courses. This service not only eases the burden on parents but also allows our young athletes to transition seamlessly from classroom to fairway, maximizing their practice time and overall experience.
At Stix Golf Academy, we believe that a strong support system is crucial for our young golfers' success. That's why we've developed a unique series of workshops and clinics designed specifically for parents. Our "Parents in Golf" program aims to equip you with the knowledge and skills to better support your child's golfing journey.
At Stix Golf Academy, we believe in creating unforgettable golfing experiences that not only raise funds for our youth programs but also bring together students, families, and golf enthusiasts in the spirit of friendly competition. Our calendar is packed with exciting events that showcase the true essence of tournament-style play.
Our Equipment and Apparel Program is designed to level the playing field, quite literally. We understand that golf can be an expensive sport, with specialized clubs, shoes, and clothing often presenting a significant barrier to entry for many families. Through generous donations, partnerships with equipment manufacturers, and fundraising efforts, we're able to provide our students with high-quality golf clubs, bags, shoes, and appropriate golf attire.
Your generosity provides exclusive access to four premier golf courses in metro Detroit, ensuring our students can regularly practice in authentic, competitive environments.
Donations help outfit our young athletes with properly fitted clubs, bags, shoes, and attire, removing financial barriers and allowing them to play with confidence.
our support funds our coordinated transportation program, bridging the gap between school and golf course, making regular practice possible for all our students.
